Thinking of the Outside: New art and the city of Bristol 21 May – 3 July 2005

Thinking of the Outside was an exhibition of ambitious new art works presented in unusual sites across Bristol's historic city centre. The artists began their research with Bristol's historical landscape and their ideas developed to examine broader ideas of belonging and location. Artists: Nathan Coley, Phil Collins, Kathleen Herbert, Susan Hiller, Silke Otto-Knapp, João Penalva.

Featuring moving image installations, painting, sculpture and live events, Thinking of the Outside offered an intriguing route through the Old City, exploring the relationships between insider and outsider.

Thinking of the Outside was commissioned by Bristol Legible City and Picture This in association with Situations at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Education programme was co-ordinated by Arnolfini.

The exhibition guide is available to download.

A Thinking of the Outside catalogue is available priced at £12.95. Please contact bookshop@arnolfini.org.uk if you would like to purchase.
