Past events
The Friday Event: Glasgow School of Art, 11am Friday 6 February 2009, Glasgow Film Theatre
In 2007, the term ‘situation-specific’ emerged in critical appraisals
of international scattered-site commissions such as Sculpture Project
Münster, Germany, and in consideration of works such as Pawel
Althamer’s Real Time Movie, a performative intervention dispersed
across different localities and times. Drawing on trans-disciplinary
notions of place, time and locality, Claire Doherty will consider how
our understanding of situation has developed from the Situationist
intervention to dispersed events and interventions in public space,
to offer a new interpretation of situation-specificity and the artwork
as event. Download information
British Art Show 7, Friday, 31 October 2008, New Art Exchange Nottingham
Claire Doherty contributed to a discussion on the issues underpinning the
evolution of the British Art Show. Like Documenta, the next British Art Show will evolve over a five-year period,
allowing for new configurations and diverse approaches to the challenge of
presenting a national survey. What is strategically significant is that the exhibition
tours to partner cities that raise the resources to host the exhibition. For
BAS7 one of the host cities is Plymouth, which has not previously benefited
from an exhibition of this scale, raising the question of how infrastructural
challenges impact on the curatorial choices. These and an array of questions
will aim to navigate a path through issues that have, perhaps, been left
unanswered since the last exhibition. Click here to download information.
